Sesongåpning: +- – Corentin JPM Leven

Hvordan kan et ungt menneske akseptere en tilværelse med HIV og den livslange kampen mot stigmatisering som følger?

+- er en fysisk soloforestilling som utforsker livet og historien til en ung homofil mann som lever med humant immunsviktvirus (HIV). Forestillingen gir oss et innblikk i de eksistensielle plagene han gjennomgår i det han forsøker å håndtere og akseptere diagnosen.

Forestillingen gjør et forsøk på å forstå og skape åpenhet om HIV i et moderne samfunn ved å vise hvilken innvirkning diagnosen fremdeles har på et menneskes liv – til tross for den enorme vitenskapelige og medisinske utviklingen som gjør at viruset kan holdes i sjakk.

Hovedpersonen rives mellom seg selv og det kollektive aspektet ved sykdommen; arven og de menneskelige kostnadene den fører med seg. Hvordan kan man bidra til å hylle og bære denne arven? Kan man komme utenom AIDS- ikonene fra populærkulturen? Hvordan møter man sin egen kropp, sosiale privilegier, stigmatisering, og de intime og seksuelle implikasjonene forårsaket av viruset?

* Kl. 18.15 etter forestillingen på søndag vil det holdes en kunstnersamtale med Corentin Leven. Samtalen foregår i Lobbyen og vil ledes av Rose Martin. Samtalen vil holdes på engelsk.

* Aksept og Mestring er Kirkens Bymisjons samtaletilbud og møtested for hivpositive og andre som er berørt av hiv i Trondheim. Aksept og Mestring vil være tilstede i forkant av forestillingen på lørdag, og før og etter forestillingen på søndag. De tar gjerne en samtale, eller svarer på spørsmål.

Forestillingen vises i samarbeid med Trondheim PRIDE , og er en del av vår felles sesongåpning med Rosendal Teater

Om Corentin JPM LEVEN

Leven er en fransk kunstner som er etablert i Oslo. Hans kunstnerskap går på tvers av uttrykk som scenekunst, scenografi og billedkunst. Som kunstner jobber han med av ulike problemstillinger, historier, rom og estetiske uttrykk tilknyttet queer, og arbeidet hans er sterkt forankret i queer-miljøets arv og historie. ‘+ -’ portretterer Levens egen historie med HIV, fortalt av ham selv i hans første fysiske soloforestilling.

Leven ble uteksaminert ved Norges Teaterhøgskole i Fredrikstad, Norge (2015) og har siden den gang jobbet med forestillingsprosjekter som “Bendik Riis: Obduksjon av myten” (2016), trilogien “Ulf Goes Religious” (2016-2021 ) osv. Han samarbeider med internasjonalt kjente artister som Bianca Casady og hennes band CocoRosie (“Maiden In the Tower”, 2020, Manchester Opera House) samt etablerte norske artister: Ulf Nilseng, Geir Hytten og Frikar.

How can a young person accept a life with HIV and the lifelong fight against stigmatization that follows?

+- is a movement based solo performance which explores the life and narrative of a young homosexual living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The performance gives us an insight into the existential torment he undergoes while dealing with his recent diagnosis.

The work is an effort to understand and create openness about HIV in our modern society. It offers a current way to look at the impact the diagnosis still has on a person’s life despite the tremendous scientific and medical progress regarding the way the virus is handled and suppressed.

In +- the protagonist is torn between himself and the collective aspect of the disease; the legacy and the human costs it entails. How can one pay tribute to and carry this legacy? Can you get around the AIDS-icons from popular culture? How do you face your own body, social privileges, the stigmatization, and the intimate and sexual implications caused by the virus in today’s society?

*  The performance on Sunday is presented in collaboration with Trondheim Pride

* Aksept og Mestring at Kirkens Bymisjon is a meetingplace and information center for anyone that are affected by HIV in Trondheim. They will be present before the performance on Saturday, and before and after the performance on Sunday. They are happy to answer any questions, or have a chat.

* At 6.15 after the performance on sunday, there will be an artist conversation with Corentin Leven, led by Rose Martin (professor  in dance studies). The conversation takes place in Lobbyen.

Rose Martin is Associate Professor of Arts Education with a focus on multiculturalism, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She was a dancer with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, and she then gained her PhD in Dance Studies, before becoming Senior Lecturer in Dance Studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. In January 2020 Rose took her current position at the Department of Teacher Education at NTNU. Rose has extensive experience in research and teaching in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. Her research interests include dance education; dance in postcolonial contexts; and dance and politics.

About Corentin JPM LEVEN

Leven is a multidisciplinary artist from France established in Oslo, Norway. His means of expressions are performing arts, scenography and visual arts. As an artist Leven focuses on various queer perspectives and domains such as queer stories, queer/queered spaces and queer aesthetics. ‘+-’ is Leven’s first autobiographical stage work, using his story with HIV as sole material.

Leven graduated at the Norwegian Theater Academy, in Fredrikstad, Norway (2015) and has since been working on several performance projects. He has collaborated with internationally known artists such as Bianca Casady and her band CocoRosie as well as established Norwegian artists Ulf Nilseng, Geir Hytten and Frikar.
