When I grow up..

Like me, Like my videos, love my comments and don’t forget to put your thumbs up and your hands in the air! What are we all willing to do to become famous and to stay famous? What values are you willing to let go of to live the big dream?

‘’Tribute to me’’ is a solo research working towards a performance about the desire of fame. Together with dance artist Amy Pender, we will be researching a movement vocabulary that exposes a naïve and desperate struggle to become famous.

Martijn Dirk Joling (b.1991, The Netherlands) started off his career as a Dutch rapper, and is the recipient of numerous international awards, including Rob Acda Awards, NBE VARA Contest, Last Man Standing, Battle of the Freedom, The Netherlands. He switched his focus to dance/performance art, studied creative & cultural performance at the ROC Amsterdam dance Academy (2009), and graduated with a BA of Modern Theatre Dance from Amsterdam University of the Arts (2014).

Martijn has worked as a dancer among others with Dance Company Nanine Linning /Theater Heidelberg, State Theatre Braunschweig where he danced in works by Roy Assaf, Jan Pusch, Katrín Hall, Zoran Marković & Sandra Marín Garcia. As freelance dancer he worked among others with David Zambrano, Edan Gorlicki, Blenard Azizaj, Conny Janssen Danst & Bodytalk Tanz theater. His choreographic work has been presented in Spain, Egypt, Japan, The Netherlands, Poland, Norway & Germany.

Amy Pender has her education from Amsterdam University of the Arts where she received her 4-year BA in Modern theatre dance.
During her last year of studies, she was an apprentice with the Icelandic dance company. After graduation she began working for the renown Spitfire dance and physical theatre company (CZ) whom he toured with for two years. Amy has otherwise worked as a freelancer in different European countries.

She has worked with choreographers and companies such as Hagit Yakira (UK/NO), David Zambrano (NL), Yaniv Cohen (NO), Cecilia Moisio (FIN / NL) and Bodytalk Tanz theater (DE). Somatic work has grown to be a large part of her practice as a dance artist, and in 2019 she was accepted as a student for the Klein technique teacher training programme.
