Welcome to this contemporary repertoire workshop with Yaniv Cohen – former dancer in the norwegian contemporary dance company Carte Blanche, and last seen in Alexander Ekman’s A Swan Lake at The Norwegian National Ballet.

In this workshop, following directly upon his contemporary class, Yaniv Cohen will teach repertoire from his carrier as a performer. This includes choreography from A Swan Lake by Alexander Ekman, which premiered at The Norwegian National Ballet April the 26th 2014.

About Yaniv Cohen

Yaniv Cohen was born in Qiryat Gat Israel. Yaniv started his dancing career at the age of 22 after studying at the Bat Dor school of dance in Tel Aviv under the leadership of Jeannette Ordman. He was part of ‘Hakamery Theater’ in Tel Aviv and participated in different theater works. In 2001 Yaniv started freelancing as a dancer, he joined the Suzanne Dallal Center for Dance and Theater in Tel Aviv, and he worked with choreographer Javiar De Frotus (UK). As a freelancer he also worked with choreographers such as Yasmeen Godder, Sahar Azimi, Paul Selwyn Norton (UK) and Per Jonsson (SW). After dancing one project with the Icelandic dance company he joined Carte Blanche Dance Company based in Norway. In Carte Blanche Yaniv has worked with many choreographers such as Ina Christel Johannessen, Ohad Naharin, Ingunn Bjørnsgaard, Alan Lucien Øyen, Örjan Andersson, Bruno Listopad, Sharon Eyal & Gai Behar, DansDesign, Hofesh Shechter and many more. At the moment Yaniv is dancing in the production ‘A swan lake’ by Alexander Ekman in The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet. From 2009 Yaniv started to work on his own choreography. He created several short works that have been performed in Norway, Germany and Israel. He won 3rd prize in Hannover International Choreography Competition 2012 for his duet “I wish I was Johnny Cash”. The same year he created his first full length multimedia work with Caroline Eckly and Andrea Spreafico. In 2013 he created the dance piece ‘blanke ark – del 1’ for Carte Blanche and his latest full evening multimedia duet ‘How hard can it be?’ premiered under the program of BIT teatergarasjen on Feb. 2014. Yaniv is an autodidact photographer and cinematographer, and his work has been exhibited in galleries and various festivals. He has created short art movies and documentary films, many promos and cinema ads for Carte Blanche Dance Company and for freelance choreographers such as Marsja Abrahamsen, Ina Christel Johannessen, Ella Christina Fiskum, Hillel Kogan and more.
