Residency week 40 / 2024
Natanya Kjølås is back in residence – this time with the project Luftslott! With her is dance artist and architect Karsten Lunde and dance artist Helle Kvam Leraand. The project comes out of their desire to make air visible, as it is something essential for all of us humans, but invisible.
Through an interaction between dance and architecture, Luftslott explores possibilities for making visible and embodying the presence of air, and what choreographic potential the element has. In the project, Natanya, Karsten and Helle find techniques and possibilities for building a stage room inspired by a lung. Like the respiratory system, with this volatile lung they will transport the properties of the air between the body and the atmosphere.
Friday 4th of October between 12:00 and 13:00 you can pop by the studio at DansiT / Svartlamon and take a look at the work that has been put in by the artists during the week. There are rumors of some kind of tent construction, and coffee!
Karsten Lunde (b. 1994) is an architect and dancer, with education from AHO and HFDK. In 2020, he started the architecture practice Atelier Particular, together with Lena Margrethe Hoen Berge, which works with small-scale architecture, transformation, installation and communication. In his dance practice, he works with creative dance, based on a lot of improvisation, and focuses on themes such as perception, the relationship between body and space, and performance in public space. The work constantly returns to how the two subjects, architecture and dance, influence each other. Both structure bodies in space, and relate to surroundings and culture. Architecture sets the stage for action and behavior, and movement triggers space. This is how they both work with rooms, just with slightly different timing.
Helle Kvam Leraand (b. 1996) has a bachelor’s degree in dance art and choreographic thinking from the Norwegian Academy of Dance Arts. In her work as a dance artist, Helle has a desire to convey how powerful it is to indulge in the body and let it speak. Since 2019, together with doctor Margrethe Sunnset and neurological physiotherapist Ina K Leraand, she has developed several bodily tools for the nervous system. She has many years of experience in guiding dance for various target groups such as adults with Down’s syndrome, autism, Parkinson’s patients, children, ME patients, anxiety in young people and various autoimmune diseases.
Natanya Kjølås (b. 1996) is a Norwegian-Chilean dance artist based in Oslo. She works performing and creatively with dance, choreography, performance and music. Natanya is educated at KHiO with a BA in contemporary dance. Regardless of her studies, she choreographed and danced in Nils Bech i Operaen (2017) and created the performance Bedra bedra bedra (2018) together with composer Fredrik Storsveen. Natanya has subsequently worked with Inés Belli in Metasexy, Goro Tronsmo at NAM, Jonas Øren in DNO&B, in Mia Habib Productions, etc. Since 2019, she has toured with concert performances at home and abroad, as well as being an active member of the performing arts collective Montebøllo. Natanya has, among other things, staged the works Romantic Harmonic Screamo Choir at PAF in France, Hytte & Rør in Tallbergskogen, as well as WAVE CHASERS and Tinglegheiter during the Transistor Festival 2023.
The preliminary project is supported by the Norwegian Cultural Council.
