Residency week 22 / 2024
The artists-in-residence for week 22 are Raphaël Dely & Marine Theunissen from LABORARE Collective. They will be working on their choreographic work Rising Tides, and are currently in the process of research and the creation phase.
Rising Tides is a work that deals with climate collapse and the impending threat of rising water levels submerging many territories. With this as a starting point, the artists seek out endangered European regions that are distinguished by their unique relationship with water. They have set out on a journey to explore these regions and not least the imagination of the inhabitants. What are their adaptation and protection strategies against the danger of rising tides?
Rising Tides aims to offer a gentle response to eco-anxiety and modern collapse theories by delving into humanity’s transformative and adaptive potential. By having conversations with residents of Venice and with those who live along the Belgian, Norwegian, Dutch and British coastlines, they reveal how different people envision living with water and how they dream of water-driven transformations. These insights are then explored through choreography, bringing to life a vision of resilience and adaptation.
Marine Theunissen is an artist who works at the intersection of theatre, dance, performance and artificial intelligence technologies. She also engages in research creation in an academic context and is interested in movement and artificial intelligence technologies as stage partners. She creates visual installations and seeks ways to communicate laboratory work.
Raphaël Dely is a non-binary artist with a diverse background, working at the intersection of interactive and digital art, poetry and experimental video games. Trained in art history and game design, they focus their work on public engagement and the reactivation of the artistic experience through digital technologies.
