Residency week 18 / 2024

Diwriziennet – Derooted in Breton is the third performance by Corentin JPM Productions.

Diwriziennet explores the Celtic roots of the Corentin JPM and his apparent need to escape it to define his own queer identity.  This work explores the well-acknowledged need for Queer entities to gather in larger spaces and communities to live a life of their own. In this case, to run away from the Breton countryside, the need to escape its language and culture to define a new social self. Dewriziennet requestions and reevaluates the performer’s past heritage and explores the problematic bond between emancipation and legacy.

Diwriziennet is premiering at Black Box Oslo 25th of June 2024.

About Corentin JPM Leven

Corentin JPM Leven is a French multidisciplinary artist who works and lives in Oslo. He is an educated scenographer from the Academy of Performing Arts in Fredrikstad and also works as a costume designer and light designer.

Corentin JPM has worked as a performer since 2015 with, among others, CocoRosie and Ulf Nilseng, as well as with his own solo performances “+-” (2020) and “Birds of Ill Omen” (2022). “+-” portrayed Corentin JPM’s own history with HIV, while in “Birds of Ill Omen” he took the step further and looked at other issues related to HIV: the relationship between self-defined identity that deviates from the normative, and identity as a result of medical assessments.

Corentin JPM’s artistic expression deals with various issues, stories, spaces and aesthetic expressions related to queer, and his work is strongly rooted in the heritage and history of the queer community.
