Residency week 39 / 2024

Pernille Holden is a performing and creative dancer in the free field based in Oslo. Now she is in Trondheim and our residency at DansiT / Svartlamon to start with her pre-project Drivhunger. She says about the project herself:

The word “drivhungerr” is taken from a pamphlet by the Swedish graphic designer Lina Nordenström in which she created a number of new words in various graphic profiles. Drivhunger (drive hunger) struck me as a word with bodily resonance, the word itself is active and almost primal. It is as if hunger is felt physically, as an illogical mixture of desperation, lust, greed and rage. By looking more closely at rage and desire in art, mythology and my own bodily archive, I will unearth and investigate possible physical and vocal manifestations, which in turn can start the development of a conceptual framework and methods for a future project.

About the artist

Pernille Holden is a performing and creative dancer in the free field, based in Oslo. She graduated from Spin Off Prestudium in Dance and the School of Contemporary Dance (now the College of Dance Arts). After completing her education in 2005, her artistic practice has unfolded through various collaborations where collectivity, musicality, the body’s materiality and potential are central. Through various collaborations in the Norwegian dance field, Pernille has performed in and choreographed work for various spaces and contexts, been a producer, initiated festivals and forums. Particularly significant collaborations for her work in the last 10 years have been with the choreographers Ingri Fiksdal, Hagar Malin Hellkvist Sellén, Helle Siljeholm and Ingeleiv Berstad, as well as with the artist collectives Landing and Bøler Samvirkelag.

In 2024, she and co-choreographer Ingeleiv Berstad were nominated for the Critics’ Prize and won the Hedda Prize for best dance performance with “KNØ”.

Pernille has been employed by the actors’ and dancers’ alliance since 2018 and has been awarded several grants throughout, including the state’s work grant.
