In this workshop, the participants get the opportunity to test their relationship to the physical virtuosity that Nina Wollny uses in the performance “Revisiting Nina’s Solo”. They can explore how to find their own virtuosity using the methods Nina uses.

Learning about how the human body works and how the different parts work together can have a powerful and sometimes even magical impact on movement and presence, thus enriching the way we dance. How many joints do we have in our feet, or what exactly is the anatomy of the shoulder area? After many years of teaching in different parts of the world, Nina learned that this approach does not only work for professional dancers. In Nina’s view, we are all really born dancers.

We will look at visual material of the body’s anatomy and talk about the body’s function, and use improvisation tasks and simple repetitive exercises as inspiration to explore how our own body works and what is our very own unique dance talent. Finally, each participant will create their own small solo that physically reflects the unique virtuosity that lies in each individual body. The workshop is open to all interested parties and provides space for everyone to follow their own wishes and needs. Afterwards, Nina will show an extract from the performance and open up a conversation about the topic.

Having open rehearsals, workshops, conversations and reflections has been and is an important part of the process in Revisiting Nina’s Solo. The idea is to arouse interest in the topic and enrich the participants. At the same time, it has an influence on the further development of the performance.
