Velkommen til en todagers, tverrkunstnerisk workshop i regi av Andreas Bergsland og Stocos Institute
In this trans-disciplinary workshop we will work on some principles that are common to the arts of movement, music, and the visual arts. We will seek a cross-fertilization between these disciplines by employing interactive digital systems. We will analyse in a practical way how this study can contribute to the development of choreography, electroacoustic composition and the generation of images in real time. We will experiment with several techniques for the design of digital instruments of this type capable of expanding the expressiveness of body movement to other sensory modalities such as acoustics and visual imagery.
These techniques include computerized analysis methods and the sonification of qualities of movement, models of embodied cognition, and generative algorithms from the field of artificial intelligence such as artificial neural networks or swarm simulation systems. Not only will we experience how these multi-modal instruments can be a valuable tool for generating immersive environments in a scenic context, but also the use of this interactive technology as a means to amplify body awareness and the limits of one’s own physicality”, Stocos Institute.
Maximum: 12 participants
Teachers: Pablo Palacio, Daniel Bisig and Muriel Romero.
To apply: Send an email with personal information, short bio (max 200 words) and interests to andreas.bergsland(at)ntnu.no.
Participants will be notified one week before the workshop at the latest.
The workshop is powered by NTNU ARTEC (https://www.ntnu.edu/artec)
Artificial intelligence, biology, mathematics, and experimental psychology can sound and be danced. The expansion of the body energy of dance to other sensory modalities, thanks to technology, is the field of research of choreographer and dancer Muriel Romero, composer Pablo Palacio and visual artist and software artist Daniel Bisig. Romero, who began her career with choreographers such as Forsythe or Jiří Kylián, teamed up with Pablo Palacio to found the Stocos Institute, from whence they analyse and develop the interaction between gestures, sounds, and visual imagery. They use technology to develop dance. They investigate three-dimensional movement on a stage on which bodies interact with audible and visual entities. Fruit of its own imagination, the Stocos Institute has produced a series of scenic works that act as an artistic dissemination of their research. Their work, for example Acusmatrix, Catexis, Stocos, Double Bind, Neural Narratives1: Phantom Limb, Neural Narratives2: Polytopya or Piano & Dancer or The Marriage of Heaven and Hell speak in this new language that they have developed along the years.
The theoretical body that Muriel Romero, Pablo Palacio and Daniel Bisig generate is studied in conservatories and universities all over the world. They have participated in pioneering European research projects such as WhoLoDancE, Metabody, and D.A.N.C.E.
