TIDE er en duett mellom danser og koreograf Bára Sigfúsdotter og musiker og komponist Eivind Lønning. Med bakgrunn fra hvert sitt kunstfelt kombinerer de sine erfaringer i improvisasjon og lar musikk og dans smelte sammen til et uttrykk som vekker hele sanseapparatet.

I et intenst samspill utforsker kunstnerne friksjonen mellom det visuelle og det auditive. Lyd og bevegelse er bundet sammen og påvirker hverandre fram og tilbake. De skyver og drar i hverandre, slik tidevannet stiger eller synker avhengig av avstanden til månen og sola. To utøvere, to kropper og to masser beveger seg sakte mot hverandre. Den vibrerende sammenhengen mellom lyd og stillhet, bevegelse og stillstand flyter fritt og legger igjen sine spor.

Om Sigfúsdóttir og Lønning

Bára Sigfúsdóttir er en islandsk koreograf og danser. Hun har en unik måte å forske på og komponerer bevegelsesmateriale som er artikulert, veltalende og musikalsk. I arbeidene er individets posisjon i forhold til samfunnet og naturen tilbakevendende motiv, og hun er interessert i å gi spesiell oppmerksomhet til glemte detaljer og nyanser i kroppene våre. Bevegelsesmaterialet fremkalles gjennom improvisasjonsprosesser der en praksis med å lytte og la fysisk materiale komme frem kinestetisk leder den kreative prosessen. Sigfúsdóttir har base i Norge og forestillingene hennes turnerer både lokalt og internasjonalt. I 2019 ble hun tildelt «årets koreograf» og «årets danser» i hjemlandet på Islands Performing Arts Awards.

Eivind Lønning er en av de mest fremtredende og aktive musikerne på den nordiske kreative musikkscenen. Han er internasjonalt anerkjent for sin følsomme og teksturbaserte lyd. En lyd som ikke bare oppfattes av ørene, men gjennom huden og hele vesenet. Hans komposisjonsmateriale for trompeten byr på klare strukturer med strenge rammer, som muliggjør improvisasjon. Hans erfaring med utvidede spillteknikker for trompeten presenterer et unikt repertoar og Lønning har mottatt flere priser, inkludert den prestisjetunge Young Lindeman Award med Streifenjunko, den norske Grammy i kategoriene samtidsmusikk med Christian Wallumrød (2014), og jazzmusikk med Marius Neset / Trondheim Jazz Orchestra (2015), i tillegg til at han ble nominert til de nordiske musikkprisene to ganger.

TIDE is a duet resulting from the ongoing artistic exchange between Icelandic choreographer Bára Sigfúsdóttir and Norwegian composer and trumpet player Eivind Lønning. Coming from different fields within the arts, they combine their experiences with improvisation, to create a piece where music and dance merge into an experience that awakens all the senses.

In an intense interaction, they explore the friction between the visual and the auditory. Sound and movement are bound together and influence one another back and forth. They push and pull each other, as the tide rises or falls depending on the distance of the moon and the sun. Two performers, two bodies and two masses move slowly towards each other. The vibrating connection between sound and silence, movement and stillness is flowing freely and leaves its traces.

About the artists:

Bára Sigfúsdóttir is an Icelandic choreographer and dancer. She has a unique way of researching and composing movement material which is articulated, eloquent and musical. Sigfúsdóttir creates highly visual and reflective work in which the position of the individual in relation to society and nature are recurrent motives. In her choreographic work, she is interested in giving special attention to the details and nuances of our bodies. The movement material is evoked through improvisational processes where a practise of listening and allowing physical material to emerge kinaesthetically guides the creative process. Sigfúsdóttir is based in Norway and her performances tour both locally and internationally. In 2019 she was awarded “choreographer of the year” and “dancer of the year” in her native country at the Icelandic Performing Arts Awards.

Eivind Lønning is one of the most prominent and active young musicians and composers on the Nordic creative music scene. He is internationally recognized for his sensitive and texture-based sound. A sound which is not only perceived by the ears, but through the skin and whole being. His compositional material for the trumpet offers clear structures with strict framework, while allowing the possibility of improvisation within. His experience with extended playing techniques for the trumpet present a truly unique repertoire and Lønning has received several awards, including the prestigious Young Lindeman Award with Streifenjunko, the Norwegian Grammy in the categories contemporary music with Christian Wallumrød (2014), and jazz music with Marius Neset/Trondheim Jazz Orchestra (2015), as well as being nominated for the Nordic music awards twice.
