Two dancers. One dance floor.
In a captivating and moving work, choreographer Anna Öberg draws inspiration from couple dance as a phenomenon and pulse as a medium in the encounter between dancers Viktor Fröjd and Jon Bugge Mariussen, with backgrounds in house and folk dance respectively.
Central to Öberg’s artistry is a strong, improvised connection between music and movement, often manifested through live musicians on stage. In Landscapes, she has invited her long-time collaborator, sound artist Elize Arvefjord, who, based on the sounds generated by the dancers’ movements, creates a real-time sound design that amplifies, distorts and adds to what the dancers do.
“I have long wanted to create a work for Viktor and Jon to allow their experiences and aesthetics to meet in changing landscapes of craft and materials. Two different dance practices, yet so similar. The inspiration for the work comes from my own background in couple dance where listening to, and negotiating with, the other is constantly at stake.”
