The Schuhplattler is more than just a traditional courtship dance from the Alpine region and should no longer be only reserved for men. So how can we change it?

In this workshop, the Austrian dance artist Simon Mayer will teach you different traditional Schuhplattler, you will invent new ones and enrich them with related forms such as body percussion, contemporary dance, improvisational elements and ritual practices, without losing the fun and group dynamics of folk dances. According to the interest in the group, you will also experiment with other traditional practices from the region Mayer grew up in, like yodeling, juchatzen, traditional clapping rhythms (Paschen) and whipping! In addition technical, spiritual and ritual aspects, as well as healing approaches to these traditions are taught.

Simon Mayer is performing his two pieces SunBengSitting and Sons of Sissy at the Bastard festival.
